While Windows Phone Link feature has been around since 2018, using it with iPhones has felt clunky, with limited options for sharing files directly. But now, with the newest update, those signed up for the Windows Insider Program are getting a taste of a more streamlined way to share photos, documents, and other files between devices. While still in testing, the impact is clear: tasks like transferring a photo for editing on your PC or sending important files from your PC to your iPhone can now be done in just a few taps, without the need for USB cables or third-party apps. This means more efficient workflows, faster collaboration, and fewer disruptions when moving between devices.

To test this feature, you’ll need an iPhone running iOS 16 or higher, the most recent version of the Link to Windows app on your phone, and the latest version of the Phone Link app on your PC. Additionally, you must be enrolled in the Windows Insider Program, as this feature is still in its testing phase.

Once you meet those requirements, head over to your iPhone, find the file you want to share, tap the share icon, select “Link to Windows,” and choose the PC you’d like to send it to. On the PC side, right-click the file you want to send, select “Share,” and then choose “My Phone.”

It’s important to note that this feature is still subject to the limitations of Apple’s ecosystem. Unlike Android users, iPhone users won’t have access to app mirroring or group iMessage functionality through Phone Link. Even with the file-sharing update, group messaging via iMessage is unsupported, and the app must remain open for individual messages to work.

This update reflects Microsoft’s ongoing commitment to improving cross-device compatibility, even with Apple’s restrictive ecosystem. For professionals and businesses using both iPhones and Windows PCs, this feature provides a glimpse of what’s to come—potentially transforming how tasks are managed across devices.
