Video Transcript
Microsoft Teams’ upcoming interpreter feature uses AI to enable real-time translation during virtual meetings. Not only does it translate languages, but it also simulates the speaker’s unique voice in a different language, offering a more personalized and immersive experience.
Here’s how it works: during a meeting, participants can choose their preferred language to speak or listen to, and the interpreter feature will handle the rest—translating conversations in real-time. In addition to translation, this new feature also aims to support multilingual transcription, accommodating up to 31 languages for meeting transcripts.
For businesses, eliminating language barriers allows global teams to collaborate more effectively, leading to increased productivity and inclusivity. Client meetings, cross-border negotiations, and international partnerships could become smoother, allowing organization to grow without communication hurdles.
Microsoft plans to release a preview of this exciting feature in early 2025. The preview will support up to nine languages, with more to come as the feature evolves.
If your organization wants to test this feature ahead of the full rollout, you’ll need access to the preview program. Therefore, you’ll want to speak with your IT administrator to ensure your organization is signed up for Microsoft’s preview features.
And, because this functionality relies on more modern hardware, it’ll also be important to ensure your team’s devices and networks can handle the new feature. An IT partner, like Rocket IT, can assess your current systems, identify any necessary upgrades, and make sure the interpreter feature and other Teams enhancements run smoothly once launched.
